ST. AUGUSTINE GRASS

TURF SPECIFICATIONS

SHADE TOLERANCE:

Very shade tolerant compared to other warm-season grasses wear resistance.

Fair - heavy traffic shows quickly.

MAINTENANCE

WATER NEEDS:

Water on an as-needed basis.  Water at least 1 inch at first sign of stress or wilt.  Sign of stress will include the blades turning a bluish or grayish green in color.  You may also notice foot prints being left in the grass when walked on.  Recommend watering in early morning - late afternoon or evening watering may increase disease problems.

MOWING & THATCHING:

For optimum level of turf quality, mow and maintain at a height of 2 inches and mow at lease once a week during peak growing season.  If not properly maintained thatch build-up may occur and vertical mowing may be required.

SOIL & FERTILIZER NEEDS:

Tolerates most soils but the poorer the soil the higher the management requirements.  Soil test every 2 years to determine Ph and phosphorus and potassium requirements.  Maintain Ph between 6 and 7.  Recommend 16-4-8 or 14-4-14 at 5-6 lbs. per 1,000 sq. ft. in May, June, July and August.  June and August may be deleted to lessen moving requirements.  Also recommend 6-0-24 at 4 lbs. per 1,000 sq. ft. as a winterizer no later than mid-September.

DISEASE, WEED, & INSECT CONTROL:

Susceptible to disease and some insects, especially chinch bugs - dense turf prevents most weed problems.

How to measure for our sod:

Length x width = square feet.

divide sq.ft. by 9 to get square yards.

50 yards are on one pallet

450 feet are on one pallet
